Fossilised shells of a marine nautiloid cephalopod in a limestone substrate. Several fossils are visible in this specimen.

Orthoceras was a widespread genus during the Ordovician-Triassic.  Similar to the modern nautilus, Orthoceras was a soft-bodied mollusc with tentacles in a long, straight conical shell.

Polished on one side, unpolished on the other.

Lovely display specimen for display in the classroom or for teaching.  The specimen is robust and can be handled by students without damaging it.
